Mammals

They are the warm-blooded, air-breathing, hairy and milk-producing animals. Almost all the mammals live on land. Bats are the only mammals that are capable of flying. Dolphins and whales are the marine mammals. Most of them give birth to live young, but a few lay eggs. The platypus and the echidna present a particular sex determination system that is different from other vertebrates.

Dolphin Dolphins facts

Dolphins are some of the most highly intelligent creatures on earth. They learn very quickly, which is why they, out of all sea creatures, are used most often in movies and television. Most species of dolphins live in groups, where strong bonds exist, having even a hierarchy in the search and capture of food, defense and migration. Dolphins often leap above the water surface, sometimes performing acrobatic figures. They love to play, that is why we get along so well with them. An interesting thing about dolphins is that they have a voluntary breathing system, which means that sleeping and breathing at the same time can pose a bit of a problem. The dolphins are able to send one half of their brain to sleep at a time so that they are never completely unconscious. The other half of the brain monitors what’s going on, ensuring that the animal stays out of danger and continues to breathe. When sleeping, dolphins can either swim slowly and surface every now and then for a breath, rest at the surface with their blowhole exposed or rest on the bottom (in shallow water) and rise to the surface every now and then to breath. Elephant Elephants

The elephant is the largest and heaviest mammal on land and is very intelligent as well as strong. Some male elephants can grow up to be thirteen feet tall. That's more than twice as tall as many human adults. The muscular trunk is the most remarkable feature of the elephant. It serves as a nose, a hand, an extra foot and a tool for gathering food, dusting, digging and a large number of other functions. Not only does the long trunk permit the elephant to reach as high as 23 feet, but it can also perform movements as precise as turning the page of a book. Talking about food and water, elephants are herbivores and one of the amazing elephants facts is that a single adult can eat aboout 50-100kg of grass, twigs, bark and other vegetation every day and drink as much as 50 gallons of water. Camel Camels

These animals have lived in some of the most desolate corners of our planet, and not only do they live, they thrive. By living in deserts, mountains, and other arid places camels are able to avoid predators, and others who would compete for resources. Camels can do this because of their amazing ability to efficiently use the resources their environments provide. They serve people living in such areas in various ways. They carry people and big loads as no other means of transportation can exist in deserts. Also, camel’s wool is used for making rugs and clothes. Camels are able to withstand changes in body temperature and water content that would kill most other animals. Their temperature ranges from 34 °C at night and up to 41 °C during the day, and only above this threshold will they begin to sweat. Source
